To All of Our Supporters,
As we did last December, instead of sending to you a brief summary about several of the families the Foundation has assisted, we’d like to give you an overview of some of the things your generosity has helped us accomplish in 2022. It’s been another busy year for the Foundation, and we’ve been able to keep pace with referrals from our social work partners because of your continuing support.
During calendar year 2022, the Foundation will have supplied more than 150 months of mortgage or rental assistance to help keep the families we’re asked to assist in their homes. We paid more than 80 utility bills during the year to keep the lights on and make sure phones were available for the inevitable emergencies that happen when a sick child needs help. In addition, we helped to make repairs to a mobile home so the family could avoid eviction. We also supplied grocery gift cards to those families who were experiencing food insecurity.
A critical need for the families we serve is reliable transportation for the many hospital visits necessary in the treatment of cancer and its many complications. During 2022, the Foundation supplied a down payment for a vehicle, paid for major repairs to family cars and made a total of more than 55 auto loan payments. Auto insurance payments were made for the families who needed them.
All the numbers listed above are significantly higher than 2021 totals. Even though the month of December is only half over, we know the numbers will go higher before the year ends. As of this writing, the number of families the Foundation has assisted this year is 58, also an increase over last year. In addition to the rent, utility bills and auto loans and insurance, the Foundation has provided travel assistance to families who need to visit CHOP or other hospitals for their child’s treatment. Other household expenses have been covered, as needed, and sadly some funeral expenses have been paid.
2022 has been a year of uncertainty for many of the families we are asked to help. Your continued support and generosity have helped to keep more than 50 families in their homes, with utilities paid and their cars dependably on the road. However you’ve supported the Foundation this year, by supporting one of our fundraisers, or participating in Lancaster’s ExtraGive, writing a check throughout the year or by planning to support us with your end-of-year contributions, we humbly offer our most heartfelt thanks. Our mission to support families with children battling cancer continues, regardless of what else is happening in the world around us. We couldn’t do any of this without your support. On behalf of all the families you’ve helped us assist this year, we thank you and wish you a blessed and healthy holiday season and a wonderful new year!
Most sincerely,
The Board and Volunteers of the Jeff Musser Foundation
